A 31 syllable poem similar to Haiku
It has 5 lines, following the pattern 57577
Example:
Tanka poetry
is a very fun style
Brevity is key
To express a good idea
yet still evoke emotion
We thought that trying to encapsulate the life of someone you admire in Tanka form would be a great exercise in creativity.

Instructions

  • Write a biographical poem (can be about anyone)
  • Title the poem as the person’s name
  • Use Tanka style 57577 only (Title is not part of the poem)
  • Only use a solid color for the background
  • Post your favorite photograph of this person
  • Note: The photograph is not judged, only used as a reference
  • Tagalog language only

Judging Criteria

  • We don’t think art is entirely subjective, but trying to quantify art is also sometimes silly
  • Make something you really love and share it with us
  • Look at our past contests to see our taste
